Observer
CURRENTRead-only. MA collects data and runs analysis but generates zero suggestions. Active during strategy retesting.
Acolyte
LOCKEDMA begins generating low-conviction advisory suggestions. All actions require human approval. Shadow ledger now records each suggestion for hypothetical tracking. (SHADOW-TRACKING-EARLIER-2026-05-10)
Apprentice
LOCKEDMA generates medium-conviction suggestions with richer reasoning. Still fully gated behind human approval. Shadow ledger continues accumulating. (APPRENTICE-SHADOW-2026-05-10)
Shadow Apprentice
LOCKEDSame gated behavior as Apprentice, but shadow P&L tracking is now active. Weekly snapshots compare what MA wanted vs what actually happened.
Scholar
LOCKEDHigh-conviction suggestions unlocked. Shadow P&L continues building evidence. MA can suggest aggressive moves but still requires human sign-off.
Master Alchemist
LOCKEDFull autonomy. MA can auto-apply safe config mutations without human approval. Only unlocked manually after months of proven shadow P&L performance.

Philosophy
Trust is earned, not granted. The Master Agent starts with zero authority and must prove its value through months of observable performance before earning any degree of autonomy.
Shadow before substance. Before the MA can act on its own, it must build a paper trail. The shadow P&L tracker records what would have happened if every suggestion had been auto-applied, creating an auditable evidence base for or against graduation.
The human always has the final word. Even at Master Alchemist level, the system includes a kill switch. One click reverts the MA to Observer. Full autonomy is a privilege, not a right, and the graduation button is always manual.
